Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin on Tuesday said the surrounding areas of the Secretariat will be declared as ‘Silent Zone’ from December 17 to make that areas sound-free.
“As part of making the capital free from sound-pollution, a pilot project will be launched from December 17 next declaring the surrounding areas of the Secretariat, Zero Point, Paltan, Kadam Foara, Shikkha Bhaban as silent zone where no vehicle will be allowed to play horn,” he said.
He came up with the call while talking to the journalists at his ministry office here following attending an inter-ministerial meeting to take suitable measures aiming to prevent air and sound pollution in the city, a press release said.
To prevent sound pollution, pragmatic step will be taken to stop the usage of hydraulic horns, he added.
